Job Description

Serves electrical and telecommunications utility customers by providing material and technical support. Develops a strong working relationship through trust, honesty and service by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:
Promotes and maintains corporate image through consistent and quality service, and establishes and maintains positive working relationships with customers, vendors and co-workers.
Determines customer requirements and expectations in order to recommend specific products and solutions.
Analyzes customer business opportunities and proactively recommends items needed by customers to increase customer satisfaction and improve transaction profitability.
Generates new and repeat sales by providing customers with technical data on materials and products as needed and information on alternative materials and products when available.
Recommends alternative products based on cost, availability or specifications.
Increases sales and average order size by means of cross-selling, up-selling and add-on sales.
Educates customers about terminology, features and benefits of products in order to improve product-related sales and customer satisfaction.
Contacts manufacturers and representatives for pricing and availability.
Quotes prices and credit terms in accordance with standard procedures and prepare sales contracts for orders obtained.
Requests, reviews and signs bid and performance bonds when required.
Accurately processes customer transactions.
Orders and monitors contract materials as required by customer.
Obtains freight rates when quoting freight sensitive materials.
Obtains accurate information from vendors relating to shipment and expected delivery dates.
Estimates dates of delivery to customers based on stock and delivery schedule provided by manufacturers.
Monitors scheduled shipment dates to ensure timely delivery and confers with the Operations Manager, Director of Purchasing, Expediter and vendors to expedite as needed.
Contacts customers following sales to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and resolve any complaints.
Communicates to the Director of Purchasing any unexpected increases or decreases in demand for products.
Fills requests for catalogs, information or samples.
Liaises with Expediter to ensure the timely issue of return authorizations based on local stocking or manufacturer's return policy and transmits to customer.
Maintains databases of customer and vendor contacts, updating as necessary.
Maintains basic understanding of meter system operations.
Remains current on consumer preferences by attending sales meetings and vendor training and reading trade journals.

Education/Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or
One to two years related experience and/or training; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Capable of operating a PC and various software packages including, but not limited to: word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and internet applications.
Capable of operating office equipment such as a printer, scanner, photocopier and fax machine.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to apply correct oral and written English.
