TOOLING SUPERVISOR
Job Description
This is a working supervisory position. Assign and supervise day-to-day activities of all techs assigned to
tooling. Responsible for building, maintaining, changing and repairing primary and secondary tooling for
thermoforming. Work closely with engineering staff, production, and maintenance departments.
Qualifications
- Familiar with pattern making, thermoform tooling, injection mold tooling, rotational mold tooling, blow
mold tooling, or fiberglass tooling.
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience with 6 or more direct reports
- Organizational skills familiar with 6S
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- Competent in computer skills- knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
- Proven mechanical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing equipment and its use
- Knowledge of tool room and fabrication processes and methods
- Ability to motivate employees to reach their individual performance goals with constant and consistent
improvements to methods and processes to assure our overall goals as a department are met
- Ability to set and communicate clear expectations to staff and hold them accountable
- Ability to adjust to unpredictable situations and make decisions that require immediate time and
attention
- In the manufacturing and tool room setting, this role may require the capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment consistently and correctly
Preferred Education and / or Experience
- Engineering degree or equivalent work experience
Responsibilities
- Tool Management: Coordinate Tool construction, tool repairs, engineering changes, and preventive
maintenance for molds and fixtures used in thermoforming. Lead team of mold makers and technicians,
ensuring smooth development process.
- Hire and train: Responsible for hiring and training of Tooling Team to ensure that R&D and production
goals are met.
- Project Coordination: Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate various tasks. Schedule and
coordinate Tooling Shop operations.
- Cost Reduction: Promote cost reduction initiatives within the Tooling Shop.
- Inventory Management: Manage Tooling Shop supplies / inventory.
- Quality Focus: Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards with continuous improvement.
- Communication: Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- New Product Launches: Coordinate new product launches with production operations and
Engineering.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to tooling and production.
- Technical skills: Understanding of plastic thermoform molds, thermoforming processes, and tooling
design. Understand the behavior of different plastics during the forming process. Ability to troubleshoot
issues related to tooling and production.
Requirements
Self-starter ability to work with minimal supervision, above average attendance, ability to perform basic skills (reading, writing, math), above average communication skills, safety oriented with no prior safety violations, demonstrate good housekeeping rules and procedures, exhibit diplomacy with management, and peers, ability to work extended hours as needed to fulfill orders on a daily basis, train additional personnel as needed, assist in other areas of the plant as needed.
